This December 2007, two fellas set sail to visit some of the world’s finest pubs. Encompassing six continents, this marathon Christmas pub crawl will stretch 44,000km, cross the equator five times and stop at six of the world’s top destinations. In a stupendously festive month, we will check into one chosen city from each continent and take a night there to sample 12 of its best pubs. After 21 days, 3 winters, 3 summers and 72 pubs, we hope to have done our bit for the silly season while meeting the most festive drinkers in each country. You're wondering why 12 pubs at each stop? | The what, why, when & where of the Twelfth Pub… What? The Twelfth Pub is a global coming out party for The 12 Pubs of Christmas is not complicated. If it’s December, you’ve satisfied the strictest of the criteria and can move to step 2, which involves recruiting a posse of durable mates and visiting 12 of your favourite pubs for a pint in each. It really does do what it says on the tin. So what about ‘The Twelfth Pub’? Simple…do the 12 Pubs of Christmas then head for another continent and repeat. Do that until the only continent left is Antarctica and then contemplate the profound disappointment that unspoiled landscape has turned out to be.  Antarctica: disappointing Why? We’re doing the 12 pubs of Christmas on six continents for the craic. And we’re going to keep a live on-line diary that will allow you to test drive 72 of the planet’s great pubs from the comfort of your desktop. When you log on to see how the world’s longest pub crawl is playing out, you won’t be confronted with bawdy drunkenness. Our journey is an exploration of pub culture. We were 15 once (in fact we’re old enough to have been 15 twice), but we’ve moved on from being shambolic drunken pests. This tour is more about shenanigans than shambles. I guess you’ll need to road test our first reports from Chicago to see if we’re high brow enough for you, but I think we will be. However, we note that medical opinion includes the word opinion and sure we all have opinions. Unfortunate choice of terminology by the docs, but we’ll take the out. When & Where? The precise dates are subject to confirmation of our itinerary, which is in turn subject to our visiting the travel agent, but we hope to kick this off on December 1 in Chicago. We’ll then move to Buenos Aires, Dublin, Johannesburg and Hong Kong before wrapping it up in Perth, on December 20.
